Choral evensong on Sunday 13th March was a packed affair, both in the congregation and the choir with our new members definitely swelling the numbers. In what proved to be a very moving service for Canon John Owen’s last evensong as Vicar for the parish, the choir sang William Smith’s preces and reponses and Charles Stanford’s uplifting Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in B flat, with the tenors and basses bringing depth and serenity to the Nunc Dimittis. For the anthem the choir sang the Kyrie from Beethoven’s Mass in C, giving the congregation a taste of what to expect from the forthcoming 50th anniversary concert in June.
